BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - Neighbors who knew both the victims and their confessed shooter expressed shock and sadness Tuesday over Monday night's shooting in Bluefield.
John Douglas and Monica Watkins were both shot at their home by friend and former neighbor Donald Adams. John died at the scene. Monica was transported to a Roanoke hospital.
Neighbors said she was shot in the head.
The suspect, Donald Adams, had also previously lived on Burton Street and frequently visited the Watkins home.
Neighbors said they were shocked by the shootings.
"I was very shocked when something like this happened here," Jimmy Saunders said.
"Never would I ever think that this would happen so close to home," Francine Saunders added. "I am just devastated."
