Squares sought for W.Va. statehood quilt

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- The West Virginia Division of Culture and History is seeking quilt squares to be a part of the West Virginia Statehood Sesquicentennial Quilt to go on display in Charleston.

Officials say quilting is such an integral part of life and heritage in West Virginia that they wanted to showcase one in the sesquicentennial exhibit.

The quilt is to be made up of 55 squares representing each of the state's counties.

Quilters interested in making a square to represent their county should contact the agency. The 6-inch squares must be completed and received by Dec. 15. They will feature fabric patterns and colors that would have been available in 1863, the year West Virginia became a state.
