Paid Internships More Accessible to Local Students

RICHMOND, Va.- College students majoring in science, engineering, technology and math fields -- and the companies looking to hire them for internships-- have a new resource.
Virginia officials on Thursday announced the Commonwealth STEM Industry Internship Program.
The online system allows students at Virginia schools, or residents attending out-of-state schools, to search and apply for paid summer internships with Virginia companies.  And the companies also can use the online tool to search for qualified students.
Gov. Bob McDonnell says the program will help prepare students for high-quality, high-paying jobs for the future and help connect the business and education sectors.
Funding for the program came from the state and the Virginia Space Grant Consortium, in partnership with Virginia's regional technology councils.
