TAZEWELL (WVVA) - A Tazewell County woman has been charged in the death of her baby that died just minutes after being born.
Commonwealth Attorney Dennis Lee says 46-year-old Karen Ann Elder of Richlands has been indicted on a charge of involuntary manslaughter as well as felony child endangerment.
Lee says Elder gave birth in September 2011 -- the newborn lived less than one hour. The medical examiner concluded that drugs taken by Elder while pregnant caused the baby's death.
Elder is being held in Tazewell Regional Jail.
