Posted:

PRINCETON (WVVA) - A driver was seriously injured Tuesday after the vehicle he was driving collided head-on with a school bus.

The crash occurred on Glenwood Park Road outside Princeton shortly before 4:30 p.m. The bus was carrying students from Glenwood Middle School.

The driver of the white Tracker -- 73-year-old Ted French of McDowell County -- had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to Princeton Community Hospital. He was later flown to a Roanoke hospital with multiple injuries.

A witness at the scene said French was bleeding from the head.

At least nine students from the bus were also transported to PCH. There were no major injuries to students reported.

The barrel of a firearm inside the Tracker was said to have been snapped in the impact of the collision.

Some students were being evaluated at the scene shortly after the accident.

Traffic was backed up in both directions on Glenwood Park Road as crews worked to clear the scene.

Dep. Walters with the Mercer County Sheriff's Department told WVVA News the crash was the worst she's scene on that road.
