EXCLUSIVE: Drugs, cash stolen from Greenbrier Co Sheriff's Dept

LEWISBURG (WVVA) - Someone previously employed by the Greenbrier County Sheriff's Department is suspected in the theft of drugs and cash from the office, according to court documents obtained by WVVA News.

According to the documents filed by County Prosecutor Patrick Via with the Circuit Clerk's office, Via has requested to be removed from the case stating a conflict of interest.

It also requests from the West Virginia Prosecuting Institute that a special prosecutor be appointed to the investigation.

The suspect was until recently an active member of the Greenbrier County Sheriff's Department.

An amount of cash and controlled substances were reported missing from the sheriff's department in August. Following an internal investigation a reasonable suspicion of theft was found.

The investigation has been turned over to the West Virginia State Police.
