MERCER CO. (WVVA) - Dustie Beller was on trial for running over a woman with her car all for chainsaw. While she was found not guilty of attempted murder, the jury did find her guilty of petty larceny, conspiracy, failure to stop and render aid, and malicious wounding. The victim had this to say about the verdict. "Um very happy,” Mackenzie Ansley said. “To be expected -- the attempted murder charge. I knew coming into it, it was an iffy charge. BLAND (WVVA) -- Todd Akers' father is pretty popular right now among his son's co-workers. That's because he bought a Mega Millions ticket for their office pool that won $250,000.

The 17 co-workers have had an office pool going for several years now. Their ticket for the Sept. 18 Mega Millions drawing matched the first five numbers, only missing the Mega Ball number. Mr. Akers bought it at Food City in Bluefield, Va.

Because Todd had the ticket, he's the one who checked the numbers and discovered it was a big winner.

"I looked and, lo and behold, there they were," he told Virginia Lottery officials. "I started calling people, but no one believed me!"

Since the prize was divided 17 ways, each member of the pool received about $14,700 before taxes. They work together in a transformer manufacturing facility in Bland County.

Along with Mr. Akers, the pool members are: Todd Havens, Lynn Faulkner, Loyd Breedlove, Ricky Anders, Stephen Newberry, Kevin Martin, Carla Pauley, Heather Cox, Thomas Harner, James Smith, Edward Morehead, Richard Havens, William Tickle, Randolph Bridges, Jason Lambert and Barry Dillow.

"They were all basically telling me, ‘You'd better not be lying to us!'" Todd Akers said.

The winning numbers for that drawing were 5-9-22-36-49 and the Mega Ball number was 36. Mr. Akers used Easy Pick and allowed the computer to randomly select the numbers on the ticket.

Another winning ticket worth $250,000 sold in the area remains unclaimed.

The unclaimed ticket, bought for the March 30 Mega Millions drawing at Fas Mart (Valero) on Route 19 in the Springville area of North Tazewell, is set to expire on Sept. 26.

The winning numbers for that drawing were 2-4-23-38-46.
