W.Va. PSC plans public meeting on storm response

Posted:

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- State regulators plan to hold a public meeting on utilities' responses to windstorms in late June that left more than 680,000 customers without electricity.

The Public Service Commission asked the utilities this week to attend the meeting and explain their responses. The meeting is set for Oct. 22 at the PSC's headquarters in Charleston.

The PSC is investigating how electric, water and telephone utilities responded to the June 29 derecho and subsequent storms.

Some West Virginians had to wait nearly two weeks to have their power restored. The power outages also created water and telephone outages in some areas.

The Charleston Daily Mail says PSC staff attorneys requested public hearings to give customers an opportunity to express concerns, or appreciation for what went right.
