Telephone Scam Targets Travelers

Posted:

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - West Virginia Attorney General Darrell McGraw is warning travelers about a telephone scam targeting travelers.

McGraw said Monday that the scam reported across West Virginia and surrounding states targets guests staying in hotel rooms.

As part of the scam, individuals are receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be an employee of the hotel and telling the guest that their personal information was not processed correctly. The travelers are then told that their credit card number and other personal information need to be given again in order to fix the problem.

McGraw is encouraging all travelers and consumers to never give out personal information over the telephone. He says travelers should instead make a trip to the front lobby desk to ask about the problem.
