WEST UNION, W.Va.- West Virginia State Police say a 71-year-old Doddridge County man died after troopers began searching his house as part of a drug investigation.

Police said in a statement that Elton Wine initially tried to interfere with their search for fugitive John Bowman on Thursday. After wine agreed to cooperate, he began having trouble breathing. Police provided first aid and summoned paramedics, but Wine became unresponsive and died. His body was taken to the medical examiner's office to determine the cause of death.

Bowman was arrested Friday near Wine's home. He was charged with felony cultivation of marijuana and was transported to the North Central Regional Jail to await arraignment.
