BLUEFIELD, Va. (WVVA) - Bluefield College is partnering with Tazewell County to bring the first occupant to the Bluestone Business and Technology Center.
County officials and BC President Dr. David Olive announced plans to build an open a dental school at site.
State and local leaders gathered at the development Friday -- along Route 460 between Bluefield and Tazewell -- for the announcement.
The school, to be formally named at a later date, is designed to address the growing shortage of dentists in the area.
In addition to offering the doctor of dental medicine degree, the dental school will have the potential to offer programs in dental hygiene and dental therapy.
County officials say the school will have a great economic impact on the area, providing hundreds of direct and indirect new jobs and millions of dollars annually.
Plans are to recruit and enroll the school's first students by the fall of 2015.
