RAINELLE (WVVA) - A woman has been arrested on battery charges for allegedly punching a police officer in the face.

Police say 30-year-old Gladys Lance, aka Gladys Surbaugh, was originally pulled over for speeding, but it was soon discovered that she had an expired driver's license.

While waiting for someone to show up and give her a ride, the officer attempted to stop the woman from stepping into a hazardous roadway. Police say the woman became extremely belligerent and swore at the officer.

When the officer attempted to arrest the woman for obstruction, she allegedly punched him in the face, bloodying his nose and busting his lip.

Police later found out the woman was out on bond for other assault and battery charges.
