Goodwin offers update on Beckley PD investigation

Posted:

BECKLEY (WVVA) - U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin says he does not expect any drug cases being handled by his office to be dropped in connection with the investigation into missing evidence at the Beckley Police Department.

Last month, Beckley Police Chief Tim Deems announced that prescription drugs that had been store in the department's evidence room were unaccounted.

Following that announcement, Raleigh County Prosecutor Kristen Keller stated that drug cases that had evidence stored at the Beckley PD would be dropped -- a move that would potentially affect scores of cases.

Goodwin says it appears no drug cases being handled by the US Attorneys office will be affected by the missing evidence.

Goodwin's office is handling the investigation into the missing evidence. He says the investigation should be wrapped up in the next few weeks.
