Zack Grossi's father addresses the media at Concord University Thursday.
ATHENS (WVVA) - A Concord University student athlete injured in a car accident earlier this week will not return to the football team, the school announced Thursday.
An emotional head coach Garin Justice delivered the news regarding senior quarterback Zack Grossi at a press conference Thursday afternoon, on campus.
Grossi was transported to Princeton Community Hospital Monday with serious injuries following the two-car accident on Route 20 between Athens and Princeton at the Eads Mill Road intersection.
He has since returned to campus and is recovering from his injuries. The decision not to try to return to football was based on doctors' evaluations and family opinions.
Grossi's father was also on hand to address the media.
Freshman Albert Rose will now take over the starting quarterback position.
Grossi helped lead the Mountain Lions to their first WVIAC championship since the early 90s last season.
He had thrown for more than 500 yards and three touchdowns throughout two games this season.
Concord hosts the University of Charleston Saturday at Callaghan Stadium. Grossi hopes to be in attendance.
