W.Va. woman dies after being struck by hearse

JEFFERSON, W.Va. (AP) -- Police say a hearse struck and killed a woman on U.S. 60 in Kanawha County.

The accident occurred Wednesday night in Jefferson.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Department says the victim was in the highway's travel lane when she was hit by an eastbound hearse. She died at an area hospital.

A witness told investigators that he previously saw the woman near the site and she appeared to be impaired.

Police say the hearse's driver, 45-year-old Michael Jones of South Charleston, was properly operating the vehicle at the time of the accident. No citations have been issued.

The accident remains under investigation.

Police say the woman was in her 30s. Her name hasn't been released pending notification of relatives.
