Former NBA star Coles speaks out on memorabilia theft

LEWISBURG (WVVA) - A former NBA has spoken out after the theft of sports memorabilia from his Greenbrier County property.

Vernell 'Bimbo' Coles said he's thankful to the Greenbrier County Sheriff's Office for the quick arrests and attempts to recover some of the items stolen.

Two people have been arrested for allegedly trading the stolen memorabilia for pain pills.

Coles, who played several seasons in the NBA following a successful college career at Virginia Tech, said the stolen items included a signed Dallas Cowboys helmet, Olympic jerseys, a framed Miami Heat jersey, a signed basketball shoe and signed football.

Coles said some of the items stolen belonged to his children.

"It's just the fact that these are things that are my kids stuff and for somebody to come in and to really violate our property over three pills -- that just kind of shows you where we are as a community," Coles said. "I think that's really sad."
