MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- The West Virginia University Extension Service is offering training for female farmers.

The six-session course, titled Annie's Project, covers risk management training in business planning, record keeping, financial analysis, farm and food safety and networking.

The Extension Service says the free program addresses the specific needs women often face when managing a farm or farm-related operation. It will take place at six locations throughout the state, and a seventh option will offer the course online.

Jennifer Williams, agriculture and natural resources director for the WVU Extension Service, says 29 percent of the state's farmers are women.
