Concord Launches 'A Million Thanks' Campaign

Posted:
ATHENS, W.Va. - Concord University's Bonner House for Campus-Wide Community Service is sponsoring a letter-writing campaign for U.S. troops serving abroad. The campaign will kick-off on Patriot Day, Sept. 11.

The service project is part of "A Million Thanks," a nationwide correspondence effort offering appreciation to U.S. service men and women.

For more than two weeks the Bonner House will be collecting letters, pictures/drawings, posters and postcards to send to the troops. The letters and other greetings will be mailed on the Governor's Day of Service, Sept. 29.

"We decided that it would be the perfect opportunity to open up our ‘A Million Thanks' campaign on 9/11, which is also the National Day of Service and Remembrance, to the entire campus community," Bonner Coordinator Shardé Hardy said. "We want to encourage students, faculty, staff and community members to take time this September to show appreciation for U.S. troops. Although 11 years have passed since 9/11, it is impossible to forget the brave sacrifice of our past and present heroes who continue to protect our freedom."

Organizers are asking that all items be delivered to the Bonner House, or sent to Campus Box D-131, no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28.

Letter-writing guidelines are available at http://www.amillionthanks.org  For more information, contact Hardy at 304-384-6080 or shardy@concord.edu
