Boa captured in Va. after several weeks on loose

Posted:

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- A fugitive boa constrictor's days on the run are over.

Albemarle County police tell media outlets that the 7-foot red tail boa was captured Tuesday behind a former restaurant near the Seminole Square shopping center.

Employees of the restaurant saw the snake in mid-July killing an opossum. The snake fled when one worker stabbed it.

The boa constrictor has been given to the Central Virginia Reptile Rescue in Dillwyn. The rescue center will care for the snake until it finds someone to adopt the critter.
