CHARLESTON (WVVA) - The second of two West Virginia state troopers killed in the line of duty was laid to rest Wednesday.

A memorial service for Trooper Eric Michael Workman took place at 2 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center.

In a scene identical to the service for Corp. Marshall Lee Bailey last Sunday, hundreds of troopers from across the state and nation paid their respects to the fallen officer.

Friends and colleagues spoke at the service Tuesday, remembering Workman as an avid outdoorsman and standout athlete as a student in Clay County.

A visitation for Workman was held Tuesday evening at Clay County High School.

Workman and Bailey were both fatally shot last Tuesday in Clay County by 22-year-old Luke Baber of Oak Hill, after the pair pulled him over for a routine traffic stop.

Baber shot the troopers while handcuffed in the back of their squad car with a gun he had concealed on him. He was later shot and killed after a standoff with police.

A fund has been established to aid the victims' families. Donations can be made to the Fallen Trooper fund by using the PayPal donate button at www.wvtroopers.org.

Checks can also be mailed to the Trooper's Association at 210 Chesapeake Ave., Charleston, WV 25311. Donors can call the WVTA (304) 345-9884 for more information.
