CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Scores of loved ones and colleagues gathered in Charleston Sunday to pay their final respects to a slain West Virginia State Police trooper.

The funeral for Cpl. Marshall Lee Bailey was held before a somber crowd at the Charleston Civic Center.

Hundreds of law enforcement officers from as far away as Alaska attended the service.

Bailey was fatally shot Tuesday night at the Wallback park-and-ride off Interstate 79 during a traffic stop.

He had served as a trooper since October, 1995. He leaves behind three children.

Trooper Eric Workman was also wounded in the incident and died days later at Charleston Area Medical Center. His funeral is set for Wednesday, also at the Civic Center.

The suspect, 22-year-old Luke Baber of Oak Hill, fled on foot and was killed a short time later during a shootout with other officers. State police say Baber also shot and wounded a Roane County sheriff's deputy and a tow truck driver.
