7th graders receive free Y memberships through partnership

Beckley, W.Va. — The YMCA of Southern West Virginia is partnering with the Raleigh County Board of Education for the fifth consecutive year to offer complimentary, one-year memberships to the newest class of seventh grade students through the Active 7 Program.

Active 7 members have access to the basketball court, swimming pool, Bobby Pruett Youth Exercise Room as well as other Y programs and resources.
"We not only offer an excellent social setting to make new friends, but also provide an opportunity to start healthy habits, including exercise, to spark a lifetime of fitness," said Membership Director Ryan Gilkerson.

Beginning in September, middle school principals will distribute membership applications to seventh graders.  Once the application is complete, the principal will verify the application and return it to the student. To activate memberships, students will bring the final document to the YMCA of Southern West Virginia.

All of the Active 7 memberships will be good through August 31, 2013.
