It was a busy weekend for Mitchell stadium in Bluefield. Between the Graham-Beaver game, Bluefield College football, and the 2nd chance for the 2nd chance rocks concert, the seats were filled and the parking lot was packed. But now, the craze has subsided, and the stands are vacant. The parking lot is completely empty, but some fans wish certain spots had been empty for those events. These are the handicapped spots, and people are disappointed that they were not available, especially after everything Bluefield has done for handicapped parking.
"Its pretty sad, especially with all this money we spend to get the football field ADA acceptable, and then so many people went there to try to use them and couldn't use them."
Gadd says he had issues parking on Saturday because of what some fans had done to the handicap spots.
"For the game on Saturday, the college game, they had drove spikes down through all the handicap spots to put ropes to a tent."
Getting a spot for the concert on Sunday was also difficult.
"The night of the concert, a real blatant one, they took the ones up there right beside the locker rooms and put tables up there and sold beer out of them."
During the meeting, Interim City Manager Brain Cochran expressed his displeasure with what had happened.
He also refuted any claims that the city of Bluefield does not care about handicapped parking, and wants to work with the public to end this issue.
