PRINCETON -- Drs. Harry and Rosemary Wong addressed Mercer County teachers and aides in a morning-long session yesterday at the Chuck Mathena Center. The husband/wife duo are among the most sought-after speakers in education. Their most famous book, The First Days of School, has sold more than 3.6 million copies.
Over 800 educators assembled for the 8:00 a.m. presentation entitled "How to Become an Effective, Successful Teacher." Following her own remarks, Superintendent Deborah Akers introduced Harry Wong.
Wong, a former award-winning high school science teacher, has received the Horace Mann Outstanding Educator Award and the National Teacher Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award. Mrs. Wong, also a former teacher, has received the Silicon Valley Woman of Achievement Award and the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Southeastern Louisiana University College of Education. Together the Wongs earned the Upton Sinclair Award and were nominated for the Brock International Prize in Education.
