Greenbrier's planned luxury train service held up

Posted:

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- The federal government apparently isn't all aboard The Greenbrier resort's plans to offer luxury train service.

Resort owner Jim Justice says regulatory hurdles are tying up his dream of offering luxury train service from Union Station in Washington, D.C., to the resort in White Sulphur Springs.

The "Greenbrier Presidential Express" service was announced last year and was supposed to begin last month. Now Justice says the earliest the train would start will be four months after government regulations are met.

Justice tells the Charleston Daily Mail he blames himself for not knowing the time and complexity of obtaining regulatory approval.

Justice had hoped the train would help boost The Greenbrier's occupancy rates and bring back the glamour of rail travel. Passengers would pay about $650 for a roundtrip.
