National Guard warns of scam asking for money

Posted:

CHARLESTON -- West Virginia National Guard officials have been notified of an individual asking for monetary donations from local residents and businesses. The supposed purpose of these donations is to purchase calling cards for military members serving overseas.

No member of the West Virginia National Guard will ever solicit money from civilians.  The public should question the validity of any individual or organization attempting to collect donations.  There are many reputable organizations doing great things for military members but there are also people who prey on people's patriotism.

If you have questions about a fundraising group please contact the West Virginia National Guard Family Programs Office at 866-986-4326.
