Officers learn about social media's role in crime fighting

Posted:

BEAVER (WVVA) - Law officers from across West Virginia gathered in Raleigh County Thursday to learn more about the social networking and how it can be used in court.

With dozens of social media websites visited by millions of people daily, the sites can be home to criminal organizations, fraud and potential violence.

Speakers at the event say statements posted on the web could play a valuable role in prosecuting suspects.

Thursday's event was sponsored by the National White Collar Crime Center.
