W.Va. state fair popular with Va. residents

Posted:

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- The state fair is a summer tradition for many Virginia residents. But the one that thousands attend every year is across the border.

Twenty to 25 percent of the people who attend the State Fair of West Virginia come from Virginia.

Chief executive officer Marlene Jolloffe tells WDBJ-TV that West Virginia's fair is a good family destination. The site in Fairlea, W.Va., is a two-hour drive from Roanoke.

Dale Eastin of Gretna says West Virginia's fair is as close to where his family lives as other state fairs. Members of his family have attended the fair for more than 20 years.
