BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - The 2012 Bluefield Coal Symposium begins today in Mercer County with a rich lineup of speakers to discuss the state of the industry.
More than 250 people with ties to the coal industry from 14 states are expected to attend the three-day event.
The symposium begins Monday with a welcome reception and dinner featuring guest speaker Bob Murray, president and CEO of Murray Energy.
On Tuesday, Bruce Watzman, Senior Vice President of the National Mining Association, and Joe Main, MSHA's Assistant Secretary of Labor will address attendees.
Joe Craft, President, CEO, and Director, Alliance Resource Partners, LP, will keynote Tuesday's dinner -- which will also feature a special performance by Stella Parton.
Wednesday's session will feature presentations from John Eaves, President and CEO of Arch Coal, Inc., and Jimmy Brock, COO Coal, with CONSOL Energy.
The theme of the 2012 event is 'Further Along the Road to Zero.' The event is held at the Quality Hotel and Conference in Bluefield, with evening events hosted by David's at the Club.
The event is presented by the Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce and Coal News.
