CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- A regional outdoors magazine is sponsoring a contest of the best mountain towns.

Blue Ridge Outdoors gives readers choices among small and mid-sized communities, as well as the best outdoor city among populations over 100,000.

Winners will be featured in the November issue of Blue Ridge Outdoors, which focuses on travel in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.

The 10 candidates for the best mid-sized mountain town include Morgantown in West Virginia, and Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Lynchburg and Roanoke in Virginia.

Among 20 candidates in the small-town category in West Virginia are Davis, Lewisburg and Fayetteville. In Virginia, the choices are Damascus, Luray and Pembroke.

Richmond, Va., and Washington, D.C., are among eight candidates as the best outdoor city.
