Bluefield Residents Could See Decrease on Gas Bills

Posted:

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. - Bluefield Gas wants give its customers a break on their natural gas bills.

The company is seeking a reduction of about 11.6 percent in the rate it charges to reflect the price of natural gas. If the Public Service Commission approves the request, the lower rate would become effective Nov. 1.

The proposed cut would reduce the average residential customer's bill by $9.19 a month.

Vice president John Jessee says that natural gas prices have decreased.

Blaine Braithwaite with the South Bluefield Neighborhood Association says the proposed reduction is welcome. But he says the company has another pending request to raise the rate it charges for operating costs.

Bluefield Gas serves about 3,600 customers in the Bluefield area.
