RADFORD, Va. (WVVA) - Police say a missing Radford woman was found dead in her car near the bottom of a 50-foot ravine. She was identified as 27-year-old Stephany Michelle Akers, also known as Stephany Proffitt.

Akers was found by VDOT workers who were searching for her when she went missing on the previous Sunday.

According the reports, Akers was wearing her seatbelt, but was found strapped inside of her 1988 Oldsmobile with the roof of the vehicle collapsed on top of her.

A poodle found alive in the car was given to animal control officers. A Virginia Department of Transportation crew discovered the car Wednesday off Virginia Route 100.

Akers is the mother of two.
