PRINCETON (WVVA) - The Princeton Rays needed 13 innings Wednesday night to win the 2012 Mercer Cup.
The Blue Jays jumped out to an early lead in the first on a Christian Lopes single to left field bringing home the first run. Two more would plate giving Bluefield the 3-1 advantage after one inning.
The Rays would come back, tying the game at 3 in later innings when Santiago Nessy attempted to pick off a runner at first, but sent the ball sailing allowing a Rays runner to come home.
The game remained knotted at three until the 13th inning when Princeton took the 4-3 lead and the 2012 Mercer Cup crown.
The Mercer County squads face off for the final time this season tonight at Hunnicutt Field in Princeton.
