LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) -- Appalachian Power says the late June storms that knocked out electricity across Virginia cost the company about $37 million.
Spokesman Todd Burns told The News & Advance that the company's total cleanup costs were about $94 million after adding in damage from West Virginia and other states. Appalachian Power serves about1 million customers in Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee.
Officials say the company will apply for a Virginia rate increase in March with the State Corporation Commission to recover some of those costs.
The company is unable to know how the costs will impact rates, but customers won't see the increase in their bills until March 2014. The rates also include other costs for fuel and environmental measures.
