FAYETTE COUNTY (WVVA) - The body of a Fayette County man who disappeared while swimming has been recovered.
The body of 47-year-old David Jones of Powellton was located in the Kanawha River, just west of Gauley Bridge, around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The body was found about one mile from where Jones was last seen Saturday evening.
A deputy was approached by a woman late Saturday night in the area near Boonesboro Road. She said she and some friends, along with some children, had been swimming in the river, and that Jones vanished after he attempted to swim across the river.
Crews from the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, Division of Natural Resources, National park Service and area fire departments conducted search efforts since Sunday morning.
Jones' body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
Sheriff Steve Kessler said the preliminary investigation does not indicate foul play.
The incident remains under investigation.
