W.Va. man gets 25 years in kidnapping

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVVA) -- A Dunbar man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for kidnapping an 84-year-old Charleston man who died a day after testifying in the trial.

Media outlets report Gary Wayne Mullins was sentenced Thursday.

George Jacobs testified in February that Mullins jumped into his car in January 2011 as Jacobs pulled into a parking lot. Mullins asked for thousands of dollars and, when Jacobs indicated he didn't have the cash, was told to drive to his home and later to a bank. Mullins contended the money was a loan he intended to repay.

Jacobs was found dead the day after testifying. Prosecutors say the death didn't appear to be suspicious.

Mullins was found guilty of a kidnapping charge but was acquitted of robbery and obtaining money by false pretenses.
