Ferrum center pays tribute to plane crash victims

Posted:

FERRUM, Va. (WVVA) -- Ferrum College's new athletic center pays tribute to seven football players and a coach who were among 75 people killed in the Marshall University plane crash in 1970.

The players were members of Ferrum's 1968 junior college national championship team who transferred to Marshall. Marshall head coach Rick Tolley was a longtime assistant to retired Ferrum head coach Hank Norton.

Photographs of Tolley and the players are displayed on walls in the athletic center. The weight room is named The Big Green Room.

Horace Green was a running back on Ferrum's 1968 team. He tells WSET-TV that the players' families didn't want them to be forgotten.
