W.Va. casino revenues ahead of projections

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVVA) -- West Virginia casinos are holding their own despite some neighboring competition.

Overall June lottery revenues were $112.8 million, 3.7 percent ahead of projections. That's because an expected sharp decline in table games revenues did not occur amid competing attractions in Ohio and Maryland.

The Charleston Gazette reports that revenue from wagering at four racetracks had been expected to suffer following the opening of a new casino and video slot games in those states, but the drop did not materialize because of the continued strong performance at Charles Town's Hollywood Casino. Table games at Charles Town alone took in $12.9 million in June.

The revenue figures were presented to the Lottery Commission on Tuesday.
