$81,000. That is what is needed to keep the Wade Center in Bluefield open. This center offers many programs for kids in the area, some of which include providing meals and educational help. But to continue going, they need $81,000 for a license.
"What we are faced with this point is, we've been going through the licensing process for D.H.H.R. to get a license for out of school time daycare. This is state mandated, its something that we've had to do. We've gone through all the inspections with the health department, with the fire marshal. We are complying with everything they've asked us to do."
And now, they are asking for your help. This money would allow the Wade Center to offer after school programs in the fall. If they don't get this money, the Wade Center will not be able to continue helping these kids.
"We will not be able to be licensed if we do not raise this money. So we won't be able to open in the fall unless we raise this money."
McDaniel says this license is important, not just because it will provide these kids with good meals, but also tutoring, which could give them a bright future.
"They are able to be a success in the classroom. If they are a success in the classroom, they can excel in school. If they excel in school, they can complete school, and then have the opportunity to go to college, so its critical."
