Grenades Removed from VA Homes

Posted:

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- For the second time in days, the state police bomb squad has been called to homes in Virginia to retrieve live World War II-vintage grenades.

The latest occurred Saturday when Ed Glass of Richmond found the grenade while rummaging through a box in the old family home in Roanoke.

The Roanoke Times reports that a member of the Virginia State Police bomb squad retrieved the explosive device for disposal.

Earlier last week, the state bomb squad was called to a residence in Fredericksburg to remove a live grenade from a house in the city.

Family members were cleaning out the home when they found the grenade in the bottom of a trunk that had other personal items related to military service during the war.
