Shepherd U eyes Mountain St's Martinsburg campus

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Another university is looking to set up shop in Martinsburg as the future of Mountain State University remains in jeopardy after losing its accreditation.

Shepherd University already had plans to open a satellite campus in Martinsburg next summer. But President Suzanne Shipley tells The Journal the Shepherdstown school is hoping to expedite the process and open a campus there in January.

Shipley says she has talked to Mountain State about leasing or buying its Martinsburg campus.

A regional accrediting body has extended Mountain State University's accreditation until Dec. 31.

The Higher Learning Commission revoked the private Beckley school's accreditation because of leadership, organizational and integrity issues. The university is appealing.
