W.Va. PSC holds the line on AEP fuel cost rates

Posted:

CHARLESTON, W.VA. (AP) -- Appalachian Power and Wheeling Power customers won't see an increase in the rates charged to recover the utilities' fuel and purchased power costs.

An interim order issued Thursday by the state Public Service Commission holds these rates at their current levels.

The PSC says there are other unresolved cases that could affect future residential rates. They include Century Aluminum's request for a special electricity rate to enable it to reopen a shuttered aluminum plant in Jackson County.

The utilities' parent, American Electric Power, also is expected to sell bonds to recover high energy costs under legislation approved during the Legislature's regular session this year.
