TAZEWELL (WVVA) - Tazewell County administrators see potential for a tourism boost in the county.
The county is seeking state park designation for Cavitt's Creek Park and Lake Witten.
County Administrator Jim Spencer says the county is working with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation to move forward with the state park plans.
Spencer says there are minimum standards to be met.
"We'll have to look at more acreage and things like that," Spencer said.
Spencer adds that he feels the effort to become a state park will be worth it for the county.
"The biggest thing I see as a designation of a state park is it helps us enhance our marketing. Right now it's a nice park but becoming a state park will take you to the next tier."
In the meantime, visitors can continue to enjoy all the park has to offer.
The park's hours are as follows:
- Monday-Thursday: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
- Friday 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
- Saturday-Sunday 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Rates include:
- Full RV service: $15 per day/ $60 for five nights
- Prim: $5 per night/tent; $7 per night/pop up
- Shelter: $25 per day
- Jon boat rental: $3 per hour
- Pedal boat/kayak rental: $5 per hour
