BECKLEY (WVVA) - The Higher Learning Commission has extended Mountain State University's accreditation through the end of the year, as the school appeals it loss of accreditation.
According to a public disclosure notice posted on the Higher Learning Commission's website, Mountain State University had requested its accreditation be extended through June 30, 2013 while the appellate process concludes. The HLC Board of Trustees granted an extension through Dec. 31, 2012.
On June 28, the Board acted to withdraw accreditation from the school, effective Aug. 27. The school formally filed an appeal of the decision on July 18.
The school is expected to continue to award credits and degrees as long as the extended accreditation is in effect.
A final decision on the school's appeal of its accreditation loss will be made no later than Nov. 12.
