Storm disrupts phone service at GlenWood Park Retirement Village

Posted:

PRINCETON -- The hard drive for the phone system at GlenWood Park Retirement Village was destroyed during this afternoon's storm leaving all phones running through the main system inoperable, according to Betty Farley, GlenWood's Senior Vice President.

Representatives from Frontier Communications have indicated that the system will be out for the remainder of this week. Service will be restored in phases as reprogramming is completed. Service will not be fully restored until sometime next week.

GlenWood's fire alarm system operates on separate dedicated lines and was not affected. Methods for communicating with the rescue squads, hospice organizations, and other emergency responders have been established. Call lights used by residents in health care, assisted living and independent living to signal for assistance also were not affected.

Several residents have private lines installed by Frontier which are still working. Cell phone service is not reliable in the main building because sufficient signal is available in only a few areas.

If there is any change in a resident's condition, medical powers of attorney will be notified. Staff needing to call the facility should contact supervisors on cell phones or at home. Messages will be posted on GlenWood's closed circuit TV system to keep residents in all three levels of care updated and the public will be notified through the news media as soon as service is restored.
