ROANOKE Va. (WVVA) - Appalachian Power has requested additional workers ahead of potentially damaging storms that threatened the region Tuesday.

Company officials said in a press release that crews were monitoring a band of storms moving from the Midwest toward our region that could potentially bring high winds.

APCO officials requested 500 line mechanics and 100 damage assessment specialists to be staged in both Virginia and West Virginia, in case the storm brought down power lines.

"We do expect outages associated with this storm, so in advance of the storm we are securing and staging resources across our service area," said Phil Wright vice president of distribution operations.

According to WVVA's Precision Weather Team, the strong band of storms appeared to be breaking up prior to reaching our region Tuesday afternoon.
