W.Va. to host natural gas vehicle expo

Posted:

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia plans to promote vehicles that run on natural gas by hosting a national conference.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin on Tuesday announced plans for an Appalachian Basin Natural Gas Vehicle Expo and Conference in mid-May 2013.

Tomblin said he'll invite the dozen governors who with Tomblin wrote the auto industry earlier this year urging them to offer natural gas vehicles.

The Charleston expo follows Tomblin's commission of a study into converting at least some state vehicles to natural gas. West Virginia has an abundant supply of the fossil fuel, particularly in its share of the Marcellus shale reserve. Natural gas remains cheaper than gasoline.

Tomblin said the expo will promote natural gas as a vehicle fuel to private businesses as well as cities and counties around the country.
