UPDATE: Name of Brush Creek drowning victim released

BRUSH CREEK (WVVA) - Authorities have released the name of the victim and more details surrounding the drowning at Brush Creek Falls.

Deputy J.D. Gills of the Mercer County Sheriff's Department says the body of Craig Day, 27, of the Princeton area was recovered from the water around noon Sunday.

Crews searched from Saturday evening to around 1 a.m. Sunday when conditions became too dangerous for searchers.

The search resumed around 8 a.m. and included a K9 unit from the Mercer County Sheriff's Department in addition to a dive team.

Gills said Day was at the falls with friends when he entered the water alone. Friends lost sight of Day around 4:30 p.m.

The incident remains under investigation by the Mercer County Sheriff's Department.

A bloodhound was searching the area around the falls Sunday morning.

A dive team that was called to the scene Saturday evening did not locate the individual.

BRUSH CREEK (WVVA) - A dive team was called to Mercer County after a male went missing at Brush Creek Falls Saturday.

The male was at the falls with friends. He was left alone, and when the friends returned the male was missing. He was last seen around 4:30 p.m.

Emergency crews received the call around 5 p.m. Authorities were unable to locate the male after an initial search of the area surrounding the falls.

A dive team was called to the scene around 7:30 p.m. The searchers entered the water around 9:15 p.m. As of 11 p.m. Saturday night, the male had not been found.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene including the Mercer County Sheriff's Department, Princeton Rescue Squad, Athens Fire Department and state parks service.

Authorities were treating the situation as a missing person/possible drowning.
