News Release
PINEVILLE, WV – July 19, 2012 – Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. (NYSE: CLF) (Paris: CLF) announced today a $10,000 contribution to the Volunteer West Virginia Food Bank Fund. The fund was established after recent damaging storms and power outages affected most of the state. Storm relief efforts have been coordinated by West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin's office and Volunteer West Virginia.
"Cliffs cares about our communities and wants to do our share to assist relief efforts following these devastating storms," said David Webb, Cliffs' Senior Vice President of Global Coal Operations. "Cliffs' donation will assist organizations already in place to help those hardest hit and least able to cope with the recent destruction."
The Volunteer West Virginia Food Bank Fund in partnership with the Mountaineer Food Bank and Huntington Food Bank distribute food to the community feeding programs and food pantries in areas most directly affected. Thousands of state residents lost most of their basic food materials due to the power outages. Together these food banks supply more than 50 counties in West Virginia, provide services to nearly 900 programs, and since the storm have delivered several hundred thousand pounds of food.
"The food drives have been another example of how West Virginians come together in times of need. The monetary donations we have received will go a long way in restocking the barren shelves in our state's food pantries," stated Gov. Tomblin, in an official release.
