BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - The Princeton Rays evened up this year's Mercer Cup with a 6-5 win over Bluefield Wednesday.
The Rays began the scoring in the first, with Willie Argo and Darryl George driving in runs to give their squad an early 2-0 lead.
The Blue Jays answered in the bottom half of the inning, when two runs scored on a Dwight Smith grounder to third resulted in an errant throw.
The Rays responded immediately in the second, taking a 5-2 lead fueled by a Reid Redman home run.
The Blue Jays would tie the game again at 5-5, but Princeton ultimately pulled away on the bat of Omar Naevaez to take the 6-5 victory.
The Rays' win leaves the 2012 Mercer Cup tied at 1-1. The cross-county rivals face off again Thursday evening in Bluefield.
